What is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a cosmetic procedure that involves gently scraping the surface of the skin with a surgical scalpel to remove dead skin cells and fine vellus hair, also known as “peach fuzz.”
Recommended for what skin condition?
Dermaplaning is recommended for individuals looking to achieve smoother, brighter skin. It helps improve skin texture, diminish the appearance of fine lines, and allows for better absorption of skincare products.
How is it performed?
During a dermaplaning session, a trained aesthetician or dermatologist will cleanse your skin and then use a sterile surgical scalpel held at a 45-degree angle to gently exfoliate the outer layer of skin. The procedure is performed with short, feathering strokes.
Will it hurt?
Dermaplaning is generally painless and does not require anesthesia. You may feel a mild scraping sensation as the scalpel moves across your skin, similar to shaving.
Avoid dermaplaning if:
Dermaplaning may not be suitable if you have active acne, inflamed skin conditions such as rosacea or eczema, or if you have open wounds or cuts on the skin. It is important to consult with your skincare professional to determine if you are a suitable candidate.
After treatment care:
After dermaplaning, it’s essential to protect your skin from sun exposure by using sunscreen with a high SPF. Avoid using harsh exfoliants or active skincare ingredients immediately after treatment, as your skin may be more sensitive. Follow any post-procedure instructions provided by your skincare professional to maintain your results and promote skin healing.
